It’s easier to be yourself if you can see yourself.
Hi! I’m Alya Mooro. I’m an Egyptian-born, London-raised writer, author and all-around storyteller. This newsletter is my continued attempt to question the world and the structures that supposedly hold it up, in hopes of finding a place in it that better suits.
Born from the response to my debut bestselling book The Greater Freedom: Life as a Middle Eastern Woman Outside the Stereotypes, it’s a place where we can continue to see ourselves, and the many nuances of our lives, explored and represented.
Some of my most popular posts include:
Reflections on a ‘homecoming’ to Egypt.
Observing Ramadan for the first time.
Exploring the potential drawbacks of “excessive freedom.”
The importance of romanticizing one's own life.
Societal expectation and prejudice when it comes to women and ageing.
