About The Greater Conversation
If you’ve ever felt like you’re always becoming - shapeshifting through cultures, expectations, and identities - this space is for you.
Welcome. I’m Alya Mooro - a writer, author, and seeker. Egyptian-born, London-raised, and always somewhere in-between. The Greater Conversation is where I write about identity, culture, creativity, and the long, often messy journey of becoming who we really are.
This space began as a continuation of my first book, The Greater Freedom, and has grown into something deeper - an archive of questions, reflections, and reckonings. A space for those of us straddling worlds, rewriting inherited scripts, and trying to live with more truth.
I write about what it means to unlearn people-pleasing. To want without shame. To create without needing to perform. I write from the thresholds: of womanhood, of culture, of self-definition. If you’ve ever felt too much or not enough—or like your becoming doesn’t fit neatly into a box - you’re not alone.
Here, you’ll find reflections on identity, creativity, and self-invention; dispatches from the writing process; notes on the books, shows, and ideas that are shaping me; and invitations to ask bigger, deeper questions - together.
What you’ll find here:
Honest, reflective essays on identity, culture, creativity, and healing
Behind-the-scenes glimpses into the process of writing books, making art, and telling the truth
Cultural commentary and curated inspiration from the margins and the in-between
A sense of companionship in the quiet (and sometimes loud) work of becoming
