Thank you for recommending Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa. In equal measures it is stunning and heartbreaking, painfully observed and beautifully written. It feels like important reading.

Ah I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It's such a glorious book. I'd also really recommend another book of hers, Mornings in Jenin xx

I love your hair Alya. And I think its entirely true what Marina said: people (men and women) get freaked out by women with funky, curly hair. It challenges them. Cos it has its own life force. And personality. And it doesnt go away. It's just there. Glorious. Just like you.

Thank you so much, Bela! And so true it is both men AND women that get freaked out, sometimes even more so women which is so interesting, I guess it's a confrontation of what they themselves have within them, but are perhaps suppressing due to fear. May be continue to embrace our own life forces. Thank you for writing! xx

Hello from another curly haired girlie in this country from colonised lands. It took 4 years for the damage I did straightening my hair to pass. I rarely, if ever, get compliments for my curly hair (I notice blonde straight haired friends do all the time) but F that ideal and everything else. Your hair looks stunning. To the untameable 💪🏻❤️

The damage done is what feels so heartbreaking, actually! The front strands of my hair are dead straight as well as random strands throughout and seeing that makes me feel like... woah the effects of this brainwashing are long-standing, even after you see the light. Glad to hear that the damage went away eventually though!! xx
